Artistic Philosophy

I am a dancer and performer in the arts and I always lead with intelligence, kindness, and creative integrity. Artistic development, technique and understanding the use of the body to create visual shapes and pictures are important to me when creating movement. I am a concert and musical theater style dancer. Having a strong foundation in ballet has always been a principal key to further developing my artistic voice.

From the time I was little, dance has always been an important part of my life. My goal as I continue this art form is to encourage young dancers and performers to share their own individual artistic voice with the world. Everyone has a story and I want to support other artists as they display that to our dance community. I enjoy watching dancers with solid technique and musicality. To me, the most important aspect of any type of performance is for the artist to make the viewer feel something. As I sit in the audience, I look for the performers who show their emotion and the story through their facial expression and body movements. When I choreograph I listen to the music a lot to learn the accents and specific rhythm so that the movements will replicate what you hear. I also like to connect the movement to a storyline. Sometimes I choreograph demonstrating an experience that I have once encountered, and other times I make one up that will fit the music and dancer(s).

The teacher with the greatest impact on me as a dancer and a person is Jessica Spencer. From a young age, she helped me find my passion for dance. She has been one of my biggest supporters and has continued to help me grow as a dancer. Not only is she an exceptional educator, but she is also an incredible person. I admire her work ethic and kindness every day. Another artistic influence is Ida Saki. I am infatuated with the way Ida takes up space when she dances and demonstrates her technical skills, while also taking big risks and moving off her center. This allows the audience to enjoy her movement and wonder where she will take her body next.
